This advent of the New Town market in Dresden is a reproduction of a historical painting . In the foreground of the covered historical Christmas market is the 1736 erected equestrian statue Elector Augustus the Strong - the Golden Rider . The ruler wears a Roman armor and is looking towards Poland , his kingdom . The historical oil painting captures way the life and bustle of the Christmas Neustadt Market in Dresden around 1910 .

A lady who likes to paint in her spare time, had a beautiful picture of Erfurt Cathedral painted and offered it to us for an Advent calendar. Our Advent invites you to take a stroll on one of the most beautiful Christmas markets in Germany. Behind the 24 little windows you will see Christmas motifs and little pictures of typical Thuringian specialties.

The Dresden Frauenkirche, Church of Our Lady is a Lutheran church in Dresden, the capital of the German state of Saxony. It is considered an outstanding example of Protestant sacred architecture, featuring one of the largest domes in Europe. It now also serves as a symbol of reconciliation between former warring enemies.
Built in the 18th century, the church was destroyed in the bombing of Dresden during World War II. The remaining ruins were left for 50 years as a war memorial, following decisions of local East German leaders. The church was rebuilt after the reunification of Germany, starting in 1994. The reconstruction of its exterior was completed in 2004,

The Swabian university city of Ulm lies on the Danube and is world famous, mainly because of its Gothic cathedral. Rising more than 161 meters, the tower of Ulm Minster is the highest church tower in the world. With our advent calendar, the tower of Ulm Minster stands behind the historic Town Hall of Ulm. The history of Ulm's town hall dates back to the 14th century and is decorated with frescoes, which were created by Martin Schaffner. It was damaged during the WWII but was restored. Miraculously the cathedral survived the bombing which leveled most of the city.
